The science of investigating small, to the scale of 109, is called nanotechnology and nanoscience research. Materials at the nanoscale exhibit extraordinary properties compared to their bulk counterparts. In fact, one of the widely commercialized and Nobel prize-winning material is graphene. This material is composed of an atomically thin graphite sheet that can withstand tremendous amount of force, due to the carbon-carbon bond. With all these exceptional properties, nevertheless, there are still major hurdles that nanomaterials are facing. One major issue is narrowing the gap between lab work and a well-developed device for effective and reliable products. In the Kingdom, we strive to create a strong foundation in nanoscience and nanotechnology in order to tackle world-class issues. With our advanced materials labs in King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, and our brilliant young minds that can offer complex and well-studied solutions, we can offer the Kingdom with new and innovative nanodevices and complementary solution to current devices. Our applied research work encourages local content productivity in applied research work and in various field, including optoelectronics, biosensors, and energy generators. Topped with nanotechnology research, our Technology Leaders Program works on complementary applied research in various types of nanotechnology and nanoscience, including but not limited to nanoelectronics, wearable and flexible devices, nanophotonic devices, and biomedical nanodevices. We focus on establishing a strong basic research foundation in different areas of nanotechnology and nanoscience, in order to produce and develop reliable and effective nanodevices with low cost. Aligned with the national transformation plan, we also train and develop young leaders to critically think and produce proper scientific research with high impact related to nanoscience, coupled with top-tier collaboration with various leading academic institutions. Our main objective is to have self-motivated young leaders in the Kingdom to accelerate and create revolutionary chain reactions in the Kingdom’s industries. We approach this by constantly infusing the minds of our young generation with literature research, creating novel and innovative intellectual properties, publishing sound and accurate results in the top journals. We strive to have prosperous future for the Kingdom with well-developed leaders.
